The collaborative: 2051 is an organisation who present workshops to promote positive thinking for the Lambeth community. The workshop will consider the lives of individuals in addition to physical components of the borough in the future. The group of Goldsmiths students feel the ability to visualise the future is paramount when building collective hope.

Capsule 2051 was inspired by The Festival of Britain which was exhibited along South Bank in 1951. The exhibition of a tremendous scale was designed to showcase the country’s innovation which was required after the crushing gloom and austerity after the war. The event was described as a “beacon of change”, allowing people to witness scientific and technologic progress, demonstrating that the war was now over and that now is the time to move forward. Recent events have created an atmosphere of despair across the country. These emotions carry through into the ways people tell us about their stories, hopes, and opinions. By hosting an exhibition in the spirit of the festival 68 years ago, 2051 will become a new beacon of change for Lambeth. Presenting new visions of the future created by, and for the people. ‘For the future belongs to those who can see it’’.
